The Latest Grooming Tips

Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna

The Gentry Grooming Co attended their first worldwide exhibition, Cosmoprof Bologna which celebrated its 45th edition by welcoming over 175,000 visitors. The show saw 2320 exhibitors from around the World showcasing a wide variety of products.

Over the four days The Gentry took this unique opportunity to introduce buyers to Male Grooming and the problems men face with their daily shaving ritual. With a range specially developed for men using natural ingredients seemed to be a winner for them as more and more buyers are looking for products which are free from parabens, alcohol and petrochemical which can be harmful to the skin. The show has proved to be an outstanding success for The Gentry Grooming and Adele Lock couldn’t believe the response they received from across the Globe.

“It was a hugely successful show on both counts and we are poised to grow the business throughout 2012 and continue to put the GREAT in to BRITISH Grooming!”

With the Male Grooming industry growing at a record rate who knows what the future may hold for The Gentry Grooming Co…..

Vintage Revival- Short Back & Sides Sir?

On Thursday 9th February 2012 The Gentry Grooming Co celebrated the launch of their new Vintage Hair Service at the Manchester Salon. It was in fact a double celebration as they welcomed Tracy Booton to the Gentry Team.

Tracy will be the Senior Creative Stylist and Technical trainer for The Gentry and with her wealth of experience she will add a whole new dimension to the team. With over 21 years experience in men’s hairdressing, Tracy Booton is passionate about her work. This is reflected in her continual commitment to personal study and further education having being awarded numerous certificates throughout her career. Tracy’s most recent pursuit of advanced training has taken her to Santa Monica, California, to one of the world’s most prestigious Vidal Sassoon schools of excellence.  She has now become an adherent for the British Barbers’ Association and offers training courses for those wishing to develop in their chosen vocation making her a true inspiration for those in the Barbering industry.

Tracy says “My aims are to create the perfect tailored cuts for all my clients.  In this industry I feel something unique is required, I aspire to provide that at all times”

Adele Lock says:  “Tracy Booton is a great addition to the Gentry team and we are delighted that she has decided to join us. Her experience coupled with her enthusiasm will add a lot of value to the Gentry brand and we are delighted to have her on board.”

The Vintage Celebration featured a number of live demonstrations by the talented team of Stylists. Tracy showcased her talents by cutting a range of classic cuts, whilst guests watched in ore with a glass of bubbly and a selection of canapés.

The Vintage Hair Service is using traditional barbering techniques to sculpt and shape the style to suit the face shape and drawing inspiration from cuts made popular by idols such as Elvis Presley and James Dean. So why not jump in this time machine for your hair and get short & sharpe from the 30’s, or go for that rockabilty cut from the 50’s…..I know I will be!

Hot Off The Press….

This fantastic website: http://www.iamstaggered.com/ has recently added a brilliant article about achieving a professional shave, which as you may know is something we like to advise about quite a bit. Take a look at the article below:

Did you know a man shaves more than 20,000 times in his lifetime and that 97% of men dislike shaving?
Presumably you had some idea about the latter, unless you belong to that elusive 3% who just can’t get enough of shaving. If you are among the majority who find shaving a bit of a hassle, or find you just can’t seem to do a great job of it without a lot of bloodshed, then you’re probably considering getting a professional to take care of it on the big day.

Jon Lock of the Gentry Grooming Co is such a professional and he’s agreed to share some top inside tips on how to get a professional look at home, so if you can’t afford regular trips to his chair, you can at least be forearmed to make a decent stab at it yourself. (Bonus tip – no stabbing.)

Barber; proceed, sir:

  • Save on electricity bills. Avoid electric shaving. Just don’t do it! Spend a little more time finding the right wet shaving equipment that will leave your skin in much better shape.
  • Look after your skin. Once or twice a week use a gentle but effective deep facial scrub to thoroughly cleanse your pores and remove any dead skin cells. Use a mild, alcohol-free moisturiser ideally twice daily and massage into your face to keep the skin in top condition, stimulate cell regeneration and help delay those ageing wrinkles.
Wash twice a day – before shaving – with a mild face wash or hypoallergenic liquid cleanser. Try not to use soap as this will dry your skin out.
  • When it rains, it opens pores. Always try to shave after showering as this will open the pores, never shave before a shower. For a professional touch, before you start the shave, dampen a face cloth and place in the microwave for between 30-45 seconds (depending on the wattage) and place over the face and leave for 10 seconds to open the pores. (Staggered bonus tip: going for a curry on the stag? Make good use of those free warm facecloths they give you.)
  • Follow directions. Using lukewarm water, warm the skin before shaving.
  • When deciding on your pre-shave, lathering or aftershave product try to choose natural wherever possible. Avoid synthetic or chemical ingredients – fragrances, dyes and alcohol – in favour of essential oils. Allow the product a few minutes to settle in and soften your beard.
Shave in the direction of hair growth and change the blade every 2 -3 days.
  • Don’t get stung. Aftershave lotions and balms should be regarded principally as a skin care product – not a perfume to smell good.
That stinging shock of an alcohol-based aftershave lotion is not to be confused with refreshing the skin – you are more likely destroying and helping it to age. All our products are alcohol free but the black pepper and mint essential oils still provide that ‘tingle’ without damaging the skin.

With thanks to Jon Lock and the Gentry Grooming Co.
